About Us
Our Story
Founded in 1972, the Department of Computer Science at Stellenbosch University has grown into one of the leading computer science research and education institutions in Africa. In a strategic restructuring, the department merged with Mathematics and Applied Mathematics to form the Computer Science Division within the Department of Mathematical Sciences — creating a unique interdisciplinary hub where computation meets rigorous mathematics.
From our home on the oak-lined campus of Stellenbosch, we have produced generations of researchers, entrepreneurs, and industry leaders who contribute to South Africa's growing technology ecosystem and beyond.
